Prof. Vasiliki Tsoukala serves as a Director of the Laboratory of Harbour Works of the School of Civil Engineering of National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). She is an expert in Environmental Marine Hydraulics and Harbour Works. She has participated as PI and/or team coordinator in more than 35 funded research projects. Her research interests focus on the environmental design, operation and reconstruction of ports and coastal structures. Her research work also entails wave propagation, wave-structure interactions, hydrodynamics of structures, wave transformations and wave energy. Recently, in collaboration with highly-qualified colleagues, she has developed by incorporating modern monitoring methods - a methodology to: a) identify coastal and structures vulnerability, b) develop structural monitoring protocols, and c) advance the resilience of coastal zones, coastal structures and ports under climate crisis. Her academic achievements involve over 100 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences of high impact factor, while she has participated as a Guest Editor or Reviewer in both international scientific journals and conferences. Furthermore, she has been an active member of numerous scientific and professional associations throughout her career. Currently, she acts as the PI for 2 postdoctoral researchers’ and 7 PhD candidates’ ongoing research, while 2 PhD theses in which she has been PI have been completed successfully. Through her proper guidance, 4 of the PhD candidates have been funded with State Scholarships Foundation (SSF) and NTUA scholarships.
