Researcher, Mathematician
Brief info

Dr Martzikos holds a PhD in Coastal Engineering from the Laboratory of Harbor Works in the School of Civil Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), he holds a B.Sc. degree in Mathematics, with a specialization in Statistics and Applied Mathematics, from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and an M.Sc. degree in Marine Science and Technology by School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering of NTUA. In the context of M.Sc. thesis, he collaborated with the Hellenic Center of Marine Research (HCMR), and he started to work with wave data, analyzing and modelling their time series from POSEIDON observatory system. Nowadays, he is a postdoctoral researcher in the University of Plymouth and his current research is focused on high-frequency radars and their application in offshore renewable energy. His PhD titled “Analysis of Coastal Storms for their Application in Harbours and Coastal Structures Design” deals with coastal storms over the Mediterranean Sea, investigating the frequency and their severity, and their modelling through copulas. He was taking involved in the project PEARL (fp7) working on the case study of Rethymno – Crete, for climate change, and extreme and rare events in this coastal area. He also participates in Storms2Coast a basic research project funded by the NTUA and now he is a member of the Cornwall FLOW project (ERDF).
