The main objective of the research project is to establish a powerful strategy for the development of the coastal zone by protecting the coast from erosion and improving the quality of the beach allowing for tourist and recreational activities. Coastal protection and improvement measures and works should have the minimum impact on the environment, while simultaneously considering the principles of a sustainable development. Moreover, the objectives of the project include any rearrangement and/or construction of floating coastal works to optimize, increase the efficiency of their current operation and equal distribution of sand throughout the study area. For the cases where removal of existing protection works is required, other measures should be applied first, to avoid problems in existing facilities.
