The research project aims at investigating the causes of damage in the Port of Evdilos, Ikaria, after the extreme weather conditions that prevailed in the wider area of the port on January 18, 2018, which resulted in extensive damage to the windward breakwater. The objective of the project encloses:
- the investigation of the current condition of the port infrastructure after the damages,
- the examination of the breakwater design, as well as the investigation of whether the design had foreseen the suitable breakwater construction that could deal with normal and extreme weather phenomena and the corresponding loading,
- the investigation of the final construction, mainly in terms of whether it was applied based on the breakwater design requirements, aiming at submitting proposals in case additional protection or adaptation measures are required to avoid similar damages in the future.
